Meet the Dream Team: Kevin Jansen

Meet the Dream Team: Kevin Jansen

Age: 32

Where are you from? Fort. Sask why ya ask?

Tell us a little about yourself.

Most often I can be found training for my next ultra marathon, camping, biking, or exploring the rockies with my wife, Kyla. I’m a massage therapist and I organize a volunteer run club, Mission District Run Crew.

What sports did you practice as a child?

I played many sports growing up including volleyball, baseball, and ultimate but my most cherished time always involved the outdoors whether it was camping in our family tent trailer or biking and running in the river valley of the North Saskatchewan.

What brought you to the mountains?

I moved to Calgary in 2014 and it was then when I really started to explore the Rockies. I used to spend my weekends backcountry hiking and backpacking and eventually transitioned to mountain running and ski touring efforts.

What “personal touch” do you bring to SkiUphill / RunUphill? I am joining the skiuphill team as a massage therapist. So you could say that is where most of my "touch" can be found in the therapy room at Le Refuge.

What other sports are you interested in?

I recently bought a gravel bike and I'm excited to do some bike packing in the future. My wife and I have also started doing some fast packing trips. Unexpectedly, I'm also a pretty big Formula 1 fan.

What is your favourite area to run/ski?

I love exploring new areas and checking out the mountains and trails in the places I travel to.

What are your other hobbies/interests?

Outside of sport, I enjoy reading and learning about functional movement patterns for endurance athletes. Also Mario Kart.

What’s your ideal day out in the mountains?

A full day effort on a remote trail with good company, gummy bears, a mountain lake swim and a campfire to finish the day.

What’s your favourite piece of running gear?

I love my Coros Apex for its long battery life and durability as well as the accuracy in tracking and navigating new routes.

Favourite coffee/tea? Eclipse coffee, black.
