While the first and last 5 go 6 km of this run aren't the most exciting, the views are well worth it once runners reach the beautiful meadow and the alpine terrain above. Dramatic views of Mount Peter Lougheed are to be expected. Don't forget warmer clothes for the summit and keep in mind that weather can change incredibly quickly in this area.
The add-on circuit over Mount Collembola adds a fun alpine adventure and avoids the out-and-back format. It is best done in a clockwise direction. The Collembola circuit (in yellow on the map below) features very steep uphills and 2 short 4th class scrambling sections and some exposure. Make sure you are comfortable with scrambling before attempting the Collembola ridge.
