North Centennial Trail To Mount Allan + Collembola

While the first and last 5 go 6 km of this run aren't the most exciting, the views are well worth it once runners reach the beautiful meadow and the alpine terrain above. Dramatic views of Mount Peter Lougheed are to be expected. Don't forget warmer clothes for the summit and keep in mind that weather can change incredibly quickly in this area.
The add-on circuit over Mount Collembola adds a fun alpine adventure and avoids the out-and-back format. It is best done in a clockwise direction. The Collembola circuit (in yellow on the map below) has 2 short 4th class sections and some exposure. Make sure you are comfortable with 4th class climbing/scrambling before attempting the Collembola circuit.
  • Distance: 20 to 25 km roundtrip
  • Difficulty:  Challenging
  • Total Elevation Gain: 1500 meters (Allan), 2000 meters (Collembola to Allan)
  • Where to park: Peter Lougheed Viewpoint above Dead Man's Flat
  • Surface: Technical. There is a short hands-on section to access the ridge to Mount Allan. The Collembola circuit has 2 short 4th class sections and some exposure. Make sure you are comfortable with 4th class climbing/scrambling before running the Collembola circuit.
