Ready to level up from hiking to hands-on mountain adventure? These women-only scrambling sessions are your chance to learn, move, and connect in the high alpine—led by certified guide and all-around mountain badass Erica Roles. Whether you’re new to scrambling or looking to sharpen your skills on steeper terrain, these days are all about building confidence, moving smart in complex terrain, and getting after your goals with a supportive crew of like-minded women.

July 4th: Intro to Scrambling - Basic Skills

Curious about scrambling and ready to move beyond hiking trails? This women’s-only course is the perfect introduction to off-trail mountain travel. Spend a day with like-minded adventurers learning the techniques, movement skills, and equipment used to scramble peaks in a supportive, empowering environment.

Throughout the day, you’ll build a solid foundation in fundamental scrambling skills. We’ll cover how to recognize and manage terrain hazards, plan and navigate your route, and maintain a steady pace over varied terrain. You'll also learn how to dress effectively for changing mountain conditions, communicate clearly in a group setting, and understand basic rescue options. We’ll explore when and how to use simple protection like spotting or a hand line, and practice movement techniques for both scrambling and easy technical terrain. This course is all about building confidence, community, and capability in the mountains—one summit at a time.

Itinerary:

7:30 am - meet at Beamers Coffee Shop (Shops of Canmore) for program intro, equipment check, hazard discussion & trip planning.

Weather dependant, we will head to Wasootch Slabs or North Baldy, for technical and movement skills practice in the morning, and Baldy North for an afternoon scramble.

Bad weather option is Rundle Rock in Banff.

Attendants will need a harness, helmet and approach shoes they can climb in.

August 16Technical Skills for Scrambling

Ready to take your scrambling to the next level with rope skills? This women’s-only, one-day course is designed for those looking to build confidence on more technical terrain and learn practical solutions to common challenges encountered on advanced scrambles and easy alpine climbs.

In a supportive and collaborative environment, you’ll develop essential rope skills including how to build safe, efficient anchors using natural features and traditional gear. You’ll learn the fundamentals of rappelling and lowering, as well as basic rock rescue techniques such as rope ascension and hauling systems. This course focuses on hands-on learning to help you feel more self-reliant, capable, and prepared for bigger mountain adventures.
