Plum Kairn Bindings

The Kairn is the newest all-round touring binding from Plum, built for skiers who want the light weight of a race setup without the usual sacrifices. It’s the lightest Plum binding that lets you adjust both lateral and vertical release from 4 to 10. Step-in is quick and intuitive, and the climb is made easier with flat mode plus two riser heights at 50 and 65 mm. A built-in heel compensation system (4 mm) keeps ski flex natural and release consistent, even when you’re pushing hard. Brakes come standard but can be removed if you’d rather keep things as lean as possible.

Who it’s for?
High-mileage tourers and ski mountaineers who want a binding that’s light, confidence-inspiring on the descent, and versatile enough for daily use. It’s the sweet spot for skiers who live on 85–105 mm touring skis, chase big vert, and want something trustworthy on firm snow without dragging unnecessary weight uphill.

The ride?
The Kairn feels sharp and predictable on hardpack. The heel’s compensation travel smooths out ski flex and gives it a less “hinged” feel than minimalist tech heels. Step-in is quick, and the ability to adjust both release axes makes it easier to tune settings to skier, ski, and snow rather than being stuck with fixed U-springs.

Difference with other Plum lightweight options?
The Kairn introduces adjustable vertical release — lighter Plum models like the Oazo and Serak used fixed vertical release via U-springs. It keeps the heel compensation that Serak added but makes it standard. Brakes now come included and are easy to remove, where older models treated them as optional add-ons. At about 710 g per pair with brakes, it’s heavier than Oazo or Serak but gives you the adjustability and reliability to ski harder without guesswork.

If you want absolute minimal weight, the Oazo and Serak still make sense. If you want real two-axis adjustment and elasticity in a still-lean package, the Kairn is the one.
