Pa'lante Mini Joey Backpack
The Mini Joey is Pa'lante's smallest pack, sitting well below the Joey in volume and squarely in day-out territory. Trail running, summit days, fishing, ridge traverses, bike commutes. It's not an overnight pack in any realistic sense, though Pa'lante notes it can handle a super ultralight one-nighter if your kit is properly dialed.
The vest-style harness is the same two-layer 3D mesh construction as the Joey, with a softer inner layer against the skin. Sternum straps adjust up and down a daisy chain and are girth-hitched webbing with buckle closures, an improvement over the shock cord system on earlier versions that gives a more stable ride. Body fabric is 100D Robic nylon or Ultraweave 100X, with 210D UHMWPE Gridstop reinforcement and 70D 3x3 UHMWPE grid mesh on the pockets. One size fits a 15" torso. No hip belt.
Pockets are well thought out for something this small. The shoulder strap pockets fit 500ml soft flasks and double as food storage with room left over, and a phone fits fully inside without poking out. The bottom stash pocket handles a shell, headlamp, or snacks without stopping. The front mesh has a hidden interior pocket with a cord loop for keys. There's also a zippered internal sleeve that fits up to a 2L hydration bladder, with a dedicated port, and a removable foam back panel for those who want a bit of structure.
Worth knowing: the back panel doesn't breathe particularly well under hard effort on warm days, and the pack is weather resistant but not waterproof. A pack liner is worth throwing in for anything wet. The Mini Joey also comes in only one size, so very tall or very small frames may find the fit less dialed than the V2 Joey or Desert options.
At 363g (Robic) or 377g (Ultraweave), it's light enough that the pack itself stops being a factor.
