The lightest shovel in the Ortovox lineup and the one that disappears into a ski pack. At 440g it's the call for tourers counting grams and anyone who carries a shovel as insurance rather than expecting to use it daily in a professional context.
The blade is AL 6061 T6 with subtle notches and ribbing that maintain stiffness without the material mass of a thicker blade. At 2.7 litres per scoop it moves less snow per stroke than the Pro Guide or Pro Rescue, but the difference matters most in a sustained group rescue. For a solo tourer or a recreational group, it's more than adequate. The shaft uses a unique non-circular cross-section that increases strength over a standard round or rectangular tube and locks into place without a button. Switchable for left and right-handed users. Fixing holes in the blade allow construction of a rescue sled or use as a snow anchor.
The Pro Light doesn't have a hoe mode. For the skier who wants an effective, packable shovel without carrying a gram more than necessary, it's the right tool.
2026/27 update: new striped colourway on the shaft.
