The Pegasus has been the do-everything daily trainer for a long time, and the 42 gets a proper update. The big change is a full-length curved Air Zoom unit sitting in ReactX foam, replacing the separate heel and forefoot units of earlier versions. The result is a smoother, more propulsive roll from heel to toe-off. Nike says the ReactX is 13% more responsive than the previous foam.
The VIS edition is the same shoe with extra reflective elements added for low light. If you run before work, after work, or through the winter months when daylight is short, it makes you easier to see without changing anything about how the shoe feels or performs.
The upper is a single-layer engineered mesh, soft and breathable, with a plush collar and tongue. The fit has more room through the forefoot and toe box than before, so it works well for longer runs when your feet swell. The waffle outsole uses high-abrasion rubber with flex grooves for long-lasting durability.
It’s a steady, durable shoe for easy miles, long runs, and everything in between. It won’t feel lively like a supercritical foam trainer, and that’s fine. This is the shoe you put hundreds of kilometres on without thinking about it.
