The Atomic Backland 65 UL is a featherlight race ski built for serious skimo athletes and uphill fanatics who demand speed without sacrificing control. Designed with input from World Cup racers, it feels like a rocket on the climb but still delivers surprising stability on the way down. At around 670 grams per ski, the poplar and caruba core keeps weight to a minimum while carbon inserts add stiffness and energy for confident edging. The HRZN Tech tip improves float and agility in soft snow, while a long effective edge and camber give it solid grip on hardpack and steep descents.
On snow, the Backland 65 UL feels composed and predictable rather than twitchy. It glides smoothly, holds an edge with confidence, and the forgiving tail helps you recover if things get messy. Reviewers highlight its balance: ultralight efficiency uphill combined with enough torsional rigidity to trust when the slope points down. Testers have even pushed it to high speeds on groomers and found it stable far beyond what its weight suggests.
This ski is built for competitive ski mountaineering racers, elite backcountry athletes, and vertical-obsessed skinners who won’t compromise on descent performance. If your winter is defined by fast ascents, big vert, and a love for featherweight gear that still carves clean on the way down, the Backland 65 UL is your tool of choice.
