The Rho Hoody is Arc'teryx's cold-weather synthetic base layer, and it's been at the top of Outdoor Gear Lab's women's base layer list for multiple seasons running. The fabric is Torrent 190, a brushed 84% polyester / 16% elastane blend that's soft against the skin, stretchy, and warm enough for cold days without suffocating on the way up. It wicks and dries faster than merino at this weight and outlasts it too.
The three-way balaclava hood is the standout feature: neck warmer, standard hood, or full-face coverage depending on conditions, with a ponytail opening in the back that makes it actually usable when your hair is up. The laminated chest pocket with invisible zipper sits flat under a harness or shell without creating bulk. Longer torso length than most base layers keeps it in place under a pack.
