Here's a couple tidbits about Sandra.

How did you get into mountain sports?

I moved to Squamish. Need I say more? The lifestyle, the trails, and the community made it impossible for me to not get hooked and hang up the track spikes…for good?

What is your favourite race (running or skiing)

The Vancouver Sun Run. There’s nothing like lining up with 50,000 other runners and racing through the streets of Vancouver with the whole city cheering you on. But I think my favourite race might change after I run the Squamish 50k this year. I watched it in awe last year and I can’t wait to experience it for myself!

What does a typical week of training look like for you?

Much to my friend’s surprise, I’ve turned into a morning runner. I will typically run before work 5-6 days per week. If I’m lucky, my training might line up with SkiUphill’s Tuesday night group session or long run and I’ll join. In the winter, I’ll get out for a resort snowboard once per week but now that the snow’s gone, I’m supplementing my running with mountain biking. And I can’t forget strength twice a week!

What’s your favourite trail?

In the world? Axehead in Tasmania. In the Sea to Sky? Taylor Meadows/Panorama Ridge.

What’s your favourite trail running shoe? What’s your favourite road running shoe?

My favourite trail running shoe right now is the La Sportiva Prodigio Pro. My favourite road running shoe is any carbon-plated shoe on sale.

What’s your favourite piece of kit?

My NNormal Race shorts. They’re so light and airy with plenty of room for snacks in the built-in waist belt.

Favourite recovery snack?

A big tall glass of chocolate milk!!! It’s got everything I need - carbs, protein, fluid, and sodium - all in one (not sponsored, sadly).

What was your biggest goof?

Trying to be like the pros and chuck myself down Angry M only to roll my ankle days before my season opener this year.

What do you do when you’re not running/skiing?

I’m usually eating or telling other people to eat (don’t worry - as a sports dietitian, my advice is somewhat solicited).

What’s something you wish more people knew about you?

I wish more people knew that even though I’m a dietitian, I’m not perfect when it comes to nutrition. I sometimes forget to fuel during long runs, I enjoy dessert almost every night, and I still have days where I struggle with body image. But perfection isn’t the goal—consistency, balance, and self-compassion are.

Nothing in the fridge, nothing in the pantry. Where are we headed?

If it’s a weekend, Unique Slow Rise Bakery. On a weekday, Haru Korean fried chicken to-go to enjoy at the river.

What truly underrated piece of kit do you think more people should carry?

Anti-chafe balm.

What’s your most unhinged piece of trail running advice do you have?

If you’re running alone in the trails and it’s dark and scary just blast Noah Kahan at full volume from your phone. This will change the vibes instantly (not speaking from personal experience or anything).

Thanks for the time Sandra!
