Mount Gandalf

Description: A journey into the Tolkien Range is a must do for any Sea To Sky Local. Even if you are not a Lord Of The Rings fan you will enjoy this lesser known area. Mount Gandalf is one of the most prominent summits in the group. Gandalf requires some short sections of 3rd class scrambling.  Runners can expect a little bit of old logging road, Steep trail through the forest, and stunning alpine single track. Once around half way you will run by the Brian Waddington Memorial Hut situated on the West end of Long lake. Enjoy stunning views of remote peaks and valleys from the unique summit tower of Gandalf. The Tolkien range has so much to explore it is a worthwhile place to sleep for a few nights and day-trip from the hut. If runners have the energy there are several options for longer link ups in this group of mountains. Refer to Scrambles in SW BC or Alpine Select 2nd Edition for more information on surrounding summits.

Note: The Phelix Creek area is CLOSED  for recreation from August 15th - October 15th for Grizzly Bear protection. Please respect these closures it is crucial for the coastal Grizzly Bear population and avoiding conflict with humans.
