Mount Lawrence Grassi Vertical Kilometre (VK)

Segment: Grassi Vertical K
Length: 2.52 km
Elevation Gain: 1010 m

Getting to the start

Parking: Park at Goat Creek. From there, run towards the start of the Ha Ling trail, but turn right after the bridge and follow the left side of the water channel for approximately 2.4 km. After 12-15 minutes of running, you'll see a small cairn on your left. That is the start of the Lawrence Grassi trail and the segment starts right at the cairn.

Get ready for some steep hiking!

From the water channel, turn left at the cairn and follow the gradual uphill trail until you reach a rocky creek. Follow the creek for a few minutes until you see a big cairn on the climber's left of the creek where the trail heads left. From there, the trail heads into the trees and becomes quite steep until you reach treeline. The trail is quite obvious until treeline. When you reach tree line, the terrain opens up and you'll reach a round ridge that will take you to the summit block. You want to more or less follow the top of that round ridge in the most efficient way. See image below.

When the ridge narrows, stay high and make your way up the scree and the limestone slabs until you reach the summit. The trail becomes a bit loose when you near the summit, so take your time and keep it safe. The summit of the segment/trail is on the climber's LEFT summit block, so no need to scramble across to the right summit. Congrats, you have completed the Queen and King of the Hill tournament!
