Description: The Echo Lake trail is a stunning but steep grind on the West side of the Squamish river. The ascent takes you on a journey along the magical Monmouth falls and impressive old growth forest. Monmouth Falls is a 450 meter series of cascading waterfalls and slot canyons. After a long ascent, runners will be rewarded with a gorgeous alpine lake and impressive views of Mount Murchison and the whole valley far below. Take the descent trail upon your return. This will not only save your legs but also will save the ascent trail from eroding badly. Stop 2/3rds of the way down and check out the viewpoint. Do not cross the Squamish River unless you have a safe mode of water transportation (A rubber dinghy does not count). Valhalla Pure Squamish rents Packrafts and Canoes. You can also charter a boat ride from Squamish Water Sports. Thank you to Murray Sovereign for all the hard work on the Echo Lake ascent and descent trails. Note: Please refrain from having campfires at the lake (This damages the surrounding ecosystem.).
