Hands down one of the most scenic loops in Kananaskis! The Ribbon Creek to Galatea Lakes loop features long flowy running sections, some steeper uphills and ALL the views. The Guinn's Pass trail was rebuilt after the 2013 floods and it is stunning (see photo above). Views for days up there!
After an easy 7-8 km up to the Ribbon headwall, you'll have to climb up an exposed chain section to access Ribbon Lake. From there, the social paced group will run up and over Guinn's pass and back down to Galatea. The faster group will add the Buller Pass loop before running over Guinn's Pass and down to Galatea (for an extra 10km).
Make sure you are comfortable with 4th class climbing/scrambling before joining this run. It is not difficult but it is exposed and a fall would have serious consequences.
- 8 AM in Canmore to carpool, or 8:45 AM at Galatea Day Use Area.
- We'll leave some cars at Galatea then shuttle everybody back to Ribbon Creek to start the run.
Distance: 21 km for the traverse from Ribbon to Galatea via Guinn's Pass.
Total Elevation Gain: 1500 meters
Surface: Technical. There is a short but exposed climbing section with chains. The rock is quite polished.
