September 25th - Mt Temple Circumnavigation

September 25th - Mt Temple Circumnavigation

Meeting Point: 9 AM at the Moraine Lake Road-Lake Louise Drive junction picnic area.

Adrien Prigent will be leading a medium-paced group. Be prepared and self-sufficient, and please know where you are going :)

---------------
A favourite for a relatively "easy" 25 km loop and an amazing option for larch season before snow starts falling again above treeline. The first 6 or 7 km will take you to Lake Annette and the base of the dramatic North Face of Mt. Temple. Past the lake, the trail hits treeline and Paradise Valley reveals itself with its glaciated peaks.
From the Giant Steps/Sentinel Pass intersection, turn right and head up the backside of Sentinel Pass. Once again, expect amazing views at the Pass before dropping down the Larch Valley Trail to Moraine Lake.
At Moraine Lake, stay left and head around the buildings until you hit a single track named Moraine Highline. This 9 km trail undulates back around Mt. Temple and takes you back to Paradise Valley. A Classic!
  • Time: 3 to 6 hours
  • Distance: 26 km from Paradise Valley - 30 km from the Lake Louise Drive parking lot.
  • Difficulty:  Moderate
  • Total Elevation Gain: 1080 m
  • Where to park: Paradise Valley Trailhead
  • Surface: Technical and Semi-Technical. The backside of Sentinel Pass includes a bit of hands-on hiking but there is no scrambling involved.
